UPDATE, JUNE 22, 2017: Please note that this page is extremely out of date and contains a lot of information that is inaccurate or has changed since it was posted. This page will be removed.
The Alpha is only one day old and I've already seen more questions about AQ3D then I have seen about all of our other full mobile game releases combined. Maybe it's cause it's so early in development. Maybe it's because you see as much potential in the game as we do. Maybe it's just because the hype is REAL AS FRAK!
With your help, I think I've managed to compile all the truly relevant questions about what happens with AQ3D from this point forward.
AQ3D is our largest, most ambitious game project yet. A 3D game that will play in your browser, phone, tablet or on your computer. It’s an MMO based in the world of Lore.
Probably. As of the Alpha release, anyone who has EVER purchased ANY upgrade in ANY of our flash-based web games can log into AQ3D and help us test.
If you have EVER been a Member in AQW (even if you're expired), you can play AQ3D right now.
If you're a Guardian in AdventureQuest, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you're a DragonLord in DragonFable, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you're a Star Captain in MechQuest, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER been a Member in HeroSmash (even if you're expired), you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY ACs in AQW, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY Z-Tokens in AdventureQuest, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY DragonCoins in DragonFable, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY Nova Gems in MechQuest, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY Varium in EpicDuel, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY Soul Gems in OverSoul, you can play AQ3D right now.
If you have EVER purchased ANY SmashCoins in HeroSmash, you can play AQ3D right now.
Long story short, if you have ever paid any money into any of the web games, to help support AE in developing our projects and creating new games, you're in.
AQ3D is a baby game. We just left the Tech Demo phase of development where we have proven that you can walk around, talk, fight, use skills, open a shop, buy things, accept and complete quests and that it can run on mobile devices and the web at the same time… the very core of the game. Now, the Alpha Testing Phase has begun. It’s still a long way from a finished game, but now we can start building out the functionality right before your eyes.

Bugs will be verified and reproduced if possible, then sorted into priority lists by the testing team, and reported to the code team who will fix them based on their priority. It won’t be an instant thing, so try to be patient.
As long as it needs to. We are aiming for an Open Beta in late winter (late this year/early next). Wish us luck!
This is everything that we hope to have complete and stable before we enter the next development phase.
Quest System changes (Auto quest per-area)
Tooltip display
UI polish
Combat polish
Weapon trails
4 classes/skill (warrior, mage, rogue, guardian)
Monster spells and skills
Mod tools (helping the moderators and protect the game and keep it safe and fun)
Dev tools (making new adventures, items, monsters etc faster and easier to create for the Developers)
Increased server security
News
Payment (Mobile + Web)
Multi-server setup and server selection screen
Sound FX/Music
UI Tutorial (mobile only, but probably a web based one too)
Push Notifications for Mobile
Unity 5 transition
Content development tools (making new adventures, faster and easier to create)
Cape & Back Items
Gender based armors
Stackable/Usable items
Shadow
Quest Tracker
NPC movement controller polish
Hover effects (web only, hover over your mouse over a monster to see your target light up. Web only because you can’t hover on a touch screen)
Obviously we hope to get a lot more in the game before we go into Open Beta, but those are all must-haves. We have a LOT of ideas that may or MAY NOT ever make it to the game (mounts, trade system, crafting system, etc), but our wish list is a mile long and we’ve pulled miracles off before.
For some people, it’s less about helping to build a game side by side with the AE team and more about the swag. We’ve got you covered, Alpha Knights!
Tech Demo Testers - As you now know, if you tested the Tech Demo, you get
Tech Demo Badge in AQW
Tech Demo Starswords
Alpha Knight Armor which unlocks the rest of the Alpha Knight Set in AQ3D
Alpha Testers
Alpha Knight Armor which unlocks the rest of the Alpha Knight Set in AQ3D
Beta Testers
We’re not sure yet, but we’re pretty generous with the swag so I bet we’ll cook up something.
Founders
Eventually payment will enter the game. For those people who buy whatever Founder type package we introduce, you can expect to be treated well. It might be a unique class. It might be something else equally cool.. but frankly, at this point, it’s too far away to even think about. For those of you who have played AE games for a while, you KNOW how we lavish treasure, benefits, bonuses and rare items on our Founders. It will be suitably epic.
Original Legends of Lore Testers
This who tested the original Legends of Lore alpha will also be awarded Alpha Knight.
No. Currently, there are no plans to release any further rewards in AQW for Alpha testers.
Back in 2012, we took out first shot at making a 3D game. It was called AdventureQuest3D, Legends of Lore. It was going to be a web based MMO but for reasons I outlined in THIS POST, we had to shut the project down.
Fast forward to 2014. We decide to try our hand again, but this time our 3D game will be centered around a MOBILE release with web functionality tied in. Because of reasons that I detailed in THIS POST, we had to start all over from scratch. New engine, new models, new structure... new everything. That is the game that is currently in Alpha.
The AQ3D Tech Demo started 24, Nov, 2014. If you are thinking of a time that you played before that date then you are thinking of Legends of Lore and you are not a Tech Demo Tester... but the good news is that, even you aren't a Tech Demo tester, you will STILL be receiving the Alpha Knight armor along with the Tech Demo and Alpha testers (as long as you link the Artix Master account you used to test Legends of Lore to your new AQ3D account!)
Alpha Knight will be awarded in AQ3D near the end of Alpha Testing/beginning of Open Beta.
There are currently no plans to add Alpha Knight to AQW, but if you feel strongly about it, let the AQW team know and we might be able to work something out.
Yes. Once we go into Open Beta (which is when we will release the game’s mobile incarnations to various markets), ANYONE will be able to download the app and play Beta Test AQ3D.
Right now, we are focusing on building a fun and stable game that can seamlessly cross platform, but we have given payment some thought. There will probably NOT be any kind of membership required, but there almost certainly WILL be coins/micro-currency. There is also the chance that we will simply have one currency in the game (gold) and sell that.
In the Alpha we will be adding 4 classes:
Warrior
Mage
Rogue
Guardian
Each class will have its own unique skills and it’s own way of interacting and synergizing with other the classes. There will be more classes in time, but these are the four that will be released during Alpha Testing for sure.
There may be a specific healer class in time, but we’re trying to build each class so that it’s capable of supporting itself, and synergizing with other classes for greater combined effects. A lot of classes will have healing, buffing and damage mitigating abilities to keep themselves going.
No. AQ3D will be its own game, just as AQW wasn’t tied directly to the AQ Classic timeline. You might see Drakath or encounter the Queen of All Monsters and her minions, but they might take very different forms in AQ3D, and won’t be tied in any way to AQW.
We WILL have ongoing updates but not that frequently. 3D games are completely different than 2D Flash games and content creation is quite a bit more involved. Also rolling out weekly updates would bloat a mobile game to unusable proportions, even with the clever system that Zhoom is using to dynamically load and unload assets. We might have cycling shops and events that you only see on holidays, or weekly specials, or traveling sales-creatures that show up on a timed basis or certain dungeons that only open once a week, and we will add new items and classes and features, but not on a weekly basis.
I made a video tutorial for you.
No. It does add a second layer of protection to both accounts and helps player support should your account get compromised but once we go into Open Beta, anyone will be able to play AQ3D by creating a new account, even if they have never heard of any of our other games.
Sorry, but you will not be able to transfer Membership any micro-currency from any of our games to AQ3D. Because of the game’s size restrictions, we can’t add 6 years worth of AQW releases and items to AQ3D, but there might be a very small number of items that cross over from your AQW account to your AQ3D account. If his does happen, it will be post beta.
We want you to be able to show off your character to your friends via social media so we will probably (eventually, post beta) add something like a character page.
Probably. At the very least we will want everyone to be able to start the full release of the game on equal footing, even if you already know the game inside and out. BUT, we won’t take your names from you in the wipe. Those are yours now so choose well.
No. At least not like AQW. That system never worked as smoothly as we had hoped and was always difficult to explain. We’re going for something more simple this time around. We’re playing with the idea of being able to fuse items together for a small fee, so you can keep the art you want and the stats you want all on the same item. If this does happen, you won’t see it until post-beta.
Due to the size limitations of the game, we can’t fill it up with drastically different body types and animations for each gender of each species, but we will probably offer different skin textures on the current model for humanoid races like elves, elementals, cat folks, half-horks and zardpeople for example. If it’s a highly requested feature we might even give each starting race different starting stats, but if this does happen it will be post-beta.
We will be using the same system that we currently use. If you are interested in joining the team, CLICK HERE to find out how to become a Developer, Moderator or Tester for AE.
WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!?!
No. During Alpha, Mobile testing is restricted to the AQ3D Devs, and select AE staff.
These are the versions we have planned…
Apple iOS
Android
Some Web Browsers
Downloadable Client for PC
These are the versions we hope to release based on time, community interest and the game’s success…
Windows Mobile
Kindle
Steam
Select Gaming Consoles
Yes. Either over your cellular network or Wifi/wired connection. Sorry, it’s a real-time, MMO. Not really the kind of thing you can do offline.
All modern generation devices will be able to play. The older/weaker the device is, the less chance that you will be able to play it but we are trying to get it to play on as many devices as possible.
Currently you can use /join to join any map in AQ3D. /join names are…
Yulgarsinn
Battleon
GreenguardNorth
GreenguardSouth
GreenguardCave
These may stay but probably won’t. We hope to add a teleporting system to fixed locations based on discovery. Once you discover a new area by walking around, you will be able to use the map to teleport directly to it, for a small fee. If this does happen, it will be post beta.
We are not planning on any of these, but who knows? If AQ3D really takes off, the sky’s the limit.
Sure! Right now, we have a very big list of things we need to get done and things we want to get done, but we’re always open to considering your ideas too. Unfortunately we won’t be able to respond to every idea but you can post ideas directly to our AQ3D Facebook page!
There are a couple of different reasons. To join the Alpha test you need at least ONE of the following…
to be a current member of AQW
to have once been a member, but your membership expired
to have purchased ACs at some point
to be a Member in one of our other web games (AdventureQuest, DragonFable, Mechquest)
to have purchased Artix Points and used them for Varium, Soul Gems or Smash Coins
If you meet at least one of the above criteria, simply link your AQW or Artix Master account to your AQ3D account during account creation and you’re in.
NOTE: Neither Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers support the Unity plug-in. You will not be able to play AQ3D using those browsers (without a significant amount of effort on your part). This is not something that we can control or change. Sorry.
We suggest using Firefox or Internet Explorer for AQ3D.
You’re using a Mac/Safari browser. This is a known bug and it is under investigation.
Just keep playing our other games. If you have a few spare bucks and you want to contribute to the development of AQ3D, simply buy something in one of our other games. Artix Entertainment is an indie game studio and publisher, so we don’t have any financial backers. We are 100% supported by players like you and every dime helps keep us going. Thanks for your faith in us and your support of our projects like AQ3D.
