From Concept to a finished 3D Video Game Boss

The art for this new villain was painted by Dage the Evil. First, they start with a concepts like seem below. This villain is a Lieutenant (General?) of Vane the Void King. So the art was created while looking at Vane. When the two stand side by side, it should be clear who is in charge. Once the concept art was picked, Xero modeled the boss in 3D. The final model is then sent BACK to Dage who paints the final texture on the model. You may notice that most of our concept art is done with the arms out to the side. This is called a T-Pose. The game characters are stuck in this awkward position until they are sent to Korn who animates them and brings them to life. He just finished up the last of the cinematic cutscenes featuring the Void Knight. (THEY ARE AMAAAAAZING O_O!) Of course, the character was not complete when he started on the cutscenes. So he animated them using placeholders. Back to the villain itself.... once the character is imported into the game, set up for each device (Apple, Android, PC, Mac) then Oishii sets it up in the database and works with Rabblefroth to add its skills. If the boss monster does any special interactive stuff with the map, then Dagger & Llusion help build the server side machines to support this. These are the steps to add a new monster to the game. Once the boss monster is fully set up and in the game, he can be spawned anywhere to fight, or in those comic like dialog cutscenes.

Keeping our Release Schedule Going!

I am really proud of the team. As I write to you, all of our teams are actively hard at work on features, fixes, and new content for the video games. These past two weeks have not been "typical" working situations to be certain. The 5-hour delay in the game release propagating across the app store on Wednesday is a pretty good example of the new issues we have to plan around in the future. It is our pleasure and honor to continue building new things for you to do each week. We look forward to bringing you the new HeartWood forest featuring the Void Knight in the next AdventureQuest 3D release!
