"I've been relieved. I have been fighting since the things showed up. Some of the other Defenders reminded me that I ordered everyone to rotate out to stay fresh and fight as long as possible and demanded that I take a few hours rest and that everyone includes me.
But I can't sleep. Something feels different this time.
There is an otherworldly nature to the beasts. I have fought my share of magical creatures but these feel completely alien. With past invasions, there has been a purpose. The Frostlorn were raiding for supplies for their long winter. When Talyn's army attacked, it was revenge for interference. But these creatures... they don't want food or livestock. They're not singling out people. They just want to destroy.
Their brutality is blinding. If they are driven off of a building they will attack the next closest thing. I've even seen some chewing on the trees. It's like they want nothing more than to destroy Battleon. A good friend reminded me that Battleon is not this place and these buildings... It's the people who live here. If it's a choice between protecting the town or the people... well, there's not really a choice to be made.
I just get the feeling that we might not be able to protect our home this time."
