Preview of the INTRO and Gorthor Released!

"OMG! THE ART, MUSIC, AND GORTHOR ARE AMAZING!"

Greetings friends. Today, we stealth released a work-in-progress of AdventureQuest 3D's intro area. You can get to it by typing /join intro in game. It brought with it the framework for a few new features including crafting, the "use menu" for your potions and transformations like shadow wolf form, two different types of cutscenes, and more.

The new boss monster, Gorthor the Warfiend, is A BEAST!!! For higher level players looking for a challenge, do not worry... there are other Warfiends of a much higher level. But what you really want to be asking yourself is, "If this is the level 2 Boss Monster, what are future ones going to look like!?" :D The colors and tone of this new area raise the bar for the game. Yet it is far from done, we still have a lot to do.... read on for seeeecrets.

3 types of Cutscenes!?

Yes... AdventureQuest 3D officially has 3 very different styles of cutscenes. Mostly because we came up with three ways to do it, and when trying to pick one someone posted the picture of the little girl that says "why not both?" (Super effective!)  The 1st type is the new "talking heads" cutscenes that are in today's intro! They let us do JRPG style dialog with 1 to 4 characters, and feature animations and with a little more coding could feature choices. The 2nd type are "cinematic cutscenes. These are, for lack of a better way to explain, 3D versions of AQWorlds style cutscenes. They are a larger file load, but let us do almost anything. We have at least one scheduled for the intro, but it is not ready yet. Finally the 3rd type is pure video. Because of the very large file size and my inability to successfully stream *coughs*hijack*coughs* YouTube videos across platforms (oh boy did I try!) we will be using this very sparingly. A while back Yergen helped me make a few video cutscenes for "The Inn-cident" adventure which we are going to re-do as a cinematic cutscene before it is released. I think he blend of the three styles of cutscenes will work well together for storytelling.

This is still very much a work in progress and we invite your feedback, both positive and what could make the intro even better. We are going to be improving the cutscenes and smoothing out the visual parts to tell the story. Since this is primarily for new players we need to add the simple tutorial pieces, and turn off aggro from the monsters on that first path. Although the two crawling skeletons were quite a surprise.

Oh! In Gorthor's room did you notice there are skeletons up on the scaffolding casting magic at you? You can shoot back if you are a mage or climb up there if you are a warrior. I was confused at first because there were just this light under my characters feet and I was taking damage. So I asked if we could have them hurl fireballs at us so we could see where it was coming from.

Also, the newest Guardian armor design has been added to the game. There are a few different ranks of Guardian. If you are a Guardian, then you will be able to quest for the higher rank versions once the Guardian Tower goes is released.  I asked for the new Guardian armor to go live in this patch so I could screen cap footage for the next AdventureQuest 3D trailer. Yesterday, Thyton even did some"ultra manly man" deep voice acting for the a 30 second spot. His voice is so deep. You will be surprised when you hear it... especially knowing we did not alter Thyton's voice at all. "I... AM A GUARDIAN"
